Other Services

Students and members in each program have the opportunity to access additional services for their enjoyment and to enhance their quality of life.

Recreational Activities and Clubs

Vista offers an array of recreation, fitness, and social clubs to students and members with common interests. Examples of activities have included museum exhibits and theatre trips, local festivals and fairs. Examples of some recent clubs include Bowling, Tennis, Theatre Games, Girls Get-Together, and Fantasy Sports. On average students and members can expect about 16 activities or clubs occurring each week available to them. This translates to about 30 hours of structured recreational services to which they have access. Outreach members can also attend the Outreach Clubhouse for an additional 20 hours of staffed recreational activities each week.

Transportation services

Vista promotes students and members to utilize the local public transportation system. When a student or member needs a ride that doesn’t fall on the bus route, or is needed when public transportation is not available, Vista can get them to where they need to go. Vista has a large area within which it provides transportation services, and in fact provides over 50,000 rides to students and members each year beyond their extensive use of public transportation.

Benefits Counseling:

Vista offers the planning, coordination and oversight of a student/member’s federal, state, and local entitlements by Vista’s highly trained and specialized Benefits Counselors. The Benefits Counselor conducts a comprehensive analysis of the student or member’s current benefits profile. Based upon this and the goals, interests, and needs expressed by the student or member and his/her family, the Benefits Counselor supports the student or member in establishing and maintaining a plan to access the benefits for which he/she is entitled.

Please note: Consulting and advice regarding entitlements are available to students and members and their families directly from Social Security Administration and Connecticut Department of Social Services free of charge. Vista Benefits Counseling is offered as an optional service for coordination and oversight of benefits for Vista students and members.
